Eat - Dining Out
When at the brunch table I feel at home, so naturally I found myself sampling the Bourne & Hollingsworth Building’s brunch menu. Located between Exmouth Market and Clerkenwell Green, B&H Building’s allow you to taste the country without having to venture far. On arrival, the big pane windows and shop like exterior spark your imagination for what awaits your indoors. Esme and I arrived and peered through the window at the fireplace, marbled tale tops and mismatched cushions. Finally stepping into the restaurant I was instantly drawn into the bucolic trappings on offer.
The interior was reminiscent of an old English countryside manor, but despite the restaurants spacious appearance it felt incredibly busy. We were sat at the back of the room adjacent to the entrance of the Garden Room. Prior to visiting the restaurant, I’d scoped it out on Instagram – as you do! And in doing so I’d seen the Garden Room, where I was determined to get a table but unfortunately they were full. Because of where we were sat there was a constant stream of staff and fellow diners walking but it certainly did not ruin my experience. If you decide to visit the B&H Buildings for brunch, I suggest going when it’s less but if you want a calmer more relaxing atmosphere.

Our waitress was great – super helpful, friendly and funny. Once we were seated we took a look at the brunch menu but couldn’t decide what to drink, thankfully our waitress was on hand to make some recommendations and suggested we go for the bottomless bellini’s. She was sure we would love it, and she wasn’t wrong, the bottomless bellin’s we’re tasty and refreshing, a perfect accompaniment to our meal. My dining partner, Esme and I were more decisive when it came to the food, we skipped the starters and went straight for the mains. She opted for the smoked garlic and roasted tomato tagliatelle which she found agreeable – and I opted for the egg benedict which was lovely.
As we were eating, chatting, catching up on each other’s lives, groups around us were doing the same. There were groups of friends nattering away at the bar, and others lounging on the sofas engaging in more intimate conversation – which gave the place a comfortable, somewhat homely feel to it. We also wanted something sweet to follow our mains and so decided to share the dropped scones with berries, honey and clotted cream. The dropped scones were divine, definitely the star of the entire meal. They were light, fluffy and not too sweet and paired beautifully with the berries, honey and clotted cream. I could have absolutely eaten the entire dish to myself, it was that good.
Overall we enjoyed our boozy-ish brunch at the B & H Buildings. The food was as pleasant as the atmosphere and I’d definitely be back in the week to check out their lunch or dinner menu.
